Sept 2023: radiation oncology and “patient gone wrong”

Treatment day 194: my new halfway point since I have a few extra weeks at the end.

Hurray for halfway!

Radiation Oncologist consultation:

He said, “frankly, you scare me.” Because I’m so young, no family history, no genetics involved and it was so unlikely in the first place he’s not comfortable forgoing the radiation therapy and not even comfortable waiting very long to start. He even called a colleague for a second opinion and before he was even done telling him about me the other dr said “100 out of 100 times in her case I would do it”

So, I guess I’m getting radiation after all. Darn! But when you start a cancer diagnosis hearing, “this is what you’re going to do if you want to live and you’re going to start NOW…” you don’t tend to argue after that.

He needs to talk to the plastic surgeon to coordinate a plan because they conflict with each other.

But he did clarify that my cancer did have inflammation it technically wasn’t “inflammatory.” It’s only considered inflammatory if the inflammation penetrates the skin and it didn’t.

While I was waiting for the doctor to come in I had a surprise visitor… the doctor later clarified this was a patient gone wrong. HAHA

Treatment day 204: 187 more to go

Surgery number 4: port removal!

Finally got this chest port out! A standard IV in the arm hurts much more than using the port, but those are few and far between and this port always hurt. So it’s gone!

Surgery went well, no complaints except that it took 3 hours before and an hour after to do a 10 minute procedure. Oh well, it’s over!
