Every 3 weeks starting with my first chemo infusion I got a thigh injection of a combination of drugs that specifically target the HER2+ protein. I took a break from this after my last chemo until my surgery then it was back to my 3 week schedule until I hit one year from the start date.
I gotta admit, these did sting. It was a slow injection that lasted 5 minutes with a needle stuck in my thigh administered by a nurse. It hurt a little more if that nurse was particularly wiggly. After my injection I hung around for 15 minutes to make sure I didn’t have a reaction to it.
My last injection marked the end of my “active treatment” phase then I entered “surveillance.”
